Gratuity is voluntary and at your discretion. If you feel our service was good, you are welcome to leave a little extra — but it is never required and never expected. The most important thing for us is that you leave feeling better than when you came in.
Yes — we accept all major credit cards as well as cash. For convenience, you can also pay through phone before arrival. Just ask when you book.
We strongly recommend booking by appointment so we can match you to the right therapist for what your body needs. Each of our eight therapists has different specialties, and the right match makes a real difference. Same-day appointments are sometimes possible — call us and we'll do our best to fit you in.
For weekday sessions, same-day or next-day usually works. Weekends and evenings (after 6pm) often book out 2-3 days in advance, especially with our most-requested therapists. The further ahead you can book, the better your selection.
Absolutely. All eight of our therapists have profiles on the Our Team page — read about each, see who matches what you need, and request them by name when you book.
We ask for at least 4 hours' notice for cancellation or rescheduling. Same-day cancellations and no-shows may be subject to a charge — but we're flexible for genuine emergencies. Just call us as soon as you know.
When you arrive, your therapist will spend a few minutes asking where you're holding tension and what you'd like out of the session. You'll undress to your level of comfort, and a sheet will cover the areas not being worked on. Pressure can be adjusted at any point — just speak up. Sessions run the full booked time, so plan to arrive 5 minutes early.
Most clients undress to their level of comfort and rely on the sheet (which always covers the areas not being worked on). Some clients prefer to keep underwear on. For Shiatsu sessions, we offer the option of light clothing instead. Whatever feels right for you.
Drink plenty of water before and after. Avoid heavy meals 2 hours before your session. Tell your therapist about any specific areas of pain or recent injuries. Don't be afraid to give feedback during the session — if pressure is too much, just say so. We'll adjust without breaking the flow.
Some next-day soreness is normal and means real release happened. It typically feels like the day after a moderate workout. Drink water, avoid heavy training for 24 hours, and a warm bath helps. Soreness should resolve in 1-2 days.
Each of our eight licensed therapists has different specialties. Edman (30 years, Shanghai TCM) is best for chronic pain. Jack (20+ years, tuina) focuses on joint pain and recovery. Anna and Peter excel at strong deep pressure. Leo is versatile and works every day. Mary is methodical and steady. CiCi is all-around versatile. Chloe is calm and quiet. The easiest way: tell us what's bothering you and we'll match you.
For chronic lower back pain, our Deep Tissue Massage is the most-requested option — sustained firm pressure releases the deeper muscle layers that surface massage misses. For pain that radiates or feels "stuck," our therapists with Eastern training (Edman and Jack) often combine Deep Tissue with Acupressure for better long-term relief.
Swedish massage is the most widely-recommended — the slow flowing rhythm activates the parasympathetic nervous system. For deeper anxiety relief, our Eastern-trained therapists can blend in light acupressure on the upper back and scalp. Hot Stone is also excellent for stress, with the warmth adding a layer of nervous system calm.
Yes — particularly Acupressure and Shiatsu. Specific points on the upper trapezius, the suboccipital muscles at the base of the skull, and on the hands often ease headaches within minutes. We recommend a series of weekly sessions for chronic recurring headaches.
Deep Tissue and Sports-style techniques (which we blend into deep tissue work) are most effective for athletic recovery. Sessions within 48-72 hours of heavy training can dramatically speed recovery. Our therapists who do this best: Edman, Jack, Anna, Peter, and Leo.
We recommend consulting with your physician first. We have protocols for pregnancy modifications, but every situation is different. Please call us at 650-868-5088 before booking and we'll guide you through it. Some modalities (like Hot Stone) require additional precautions during pregnancy.
Some conditions (recent surgery, deep vein thrombosis, certain cardiac conditions, infectious skin conditions) may make massage inadvisable or require modification. Please consult your physician if you have any concerns and let us know before your session so we can adjust.
Yes — deep tissue work on the piriformis, gluteus minimus, and lower lumbar area can reduce nerve compression and ease sciatic symptoms. A series of 4-6 weekly sessions usually shows clear improvement. We always recommend coordinating with your physician for any ongoing nerve pain.
It depends on your goals. For active chronic pain, weekly for 3-4 weeks usually resolves it. For maintenance, every 2 weeks. For general wellness, monthly. For acute one-off issues, on-demand sessions work well.
Yes — we offer couples sessions in our larger room. Pricing is per person at the same rate as a single session ($59 for 60-min). Both partners can choose any service they want; they don't have to match.
Yes — gift certificates are available in any amount. Call 650-868-5088 to purchase. They never expire (we don't believe in expiration dates).
